The NY Times reports that the power of social media has created a lot of confusion surrounding whether women have to register for the U.S. Draft.

Women do not have to register for the draft. While men do register for the selective service, there hasn't been an actual draft in decades.

But, according to the Times, a 10 month old article is causing concern among many social media users. It stems from an old bill passed by the Senate that would require women to register. The article also explains President Obama signed it into law when he was in office. However, that provision was left out of the final version of the bill.

Why now? Many in the military have shared the article, the Times reports, as tensions rise between the U.S. and North Korea, Syria, and Russia.
