According to the Federal Trade Commission, identity theft jumped 47% last year, but here's an easy way to protect your good name.
On Wednesday, (4/27/16), Acting Erie County DA Michael Flaherty will join representatives from AARP and from the State Attorney General's Office for Shredfest. This is part of a statewide series to protect New Yorkers from identity theft by offering a secure place to shred personal financial records or other sensitive documents.
The event kicks off at noon at the Grapevine Banquets Facility on Dick Road in Depew and runs until 3pm or until the shredding truck reaches capacity.
This week, AARP is sponsoring nearly 90 other shredding events as part of "Shredfest 2016."
