Two elderly people are back home with their families thanks in large part to the hard work Tuesday of two Erie County Sheriff's K9s.

The sheriff's office says an 80 year-old woman walked away from her home on Love Road in Grand Island Tuesday afternoon. Her caretaker could not find her and called police.

Several sheriff's deputies, including deputy Galbraith and K9 Apollo, quickly arrived and began searching the area. Apollo tracked a trail near the woman's home and located her wandering through the woods. She was reunited with her family after a 40-minute search.

The K9 team went to work finding another missing person about 10:15 p.m. along Hedgewood Drive in Clarence. A home care aide called 911 after noticing a 79 year-old man had disappeared from home. Deputy Lundberg and K9 Haso, located the man about 15 minutes later in good health along Hedgewood.

Deputies Galbraith and Lundberg  went through police work dog training academy together in 2015.
