Today Senator Chuck Schumer said he opposes the proposed federal cuts to the weather satellite program.

The national weather forecasting operation includes a fleet of satellites high above Earth. Schumer says $369 million dollar cuts could make it harder for local meteorologists to forecast and warn communities about upcoming severe weather. Congress has proposed a budget to use the money for NASA missions instead.

The Senator is also calling on the National Weather Service to investigate reasons for notification delays, following the reports of delayed tornado warnings. Some south town residents say they didn't not recieve a tornado warning from the NWS on their cellphones until the damage was done.

A family affected by the recent tornados along with Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz held a press conference Monday morning.
