The Salvation Army has opened warm shelters for residents in the City of Lockport. The Salvation Army is located at 50 Cottage Street at the corner of Walnut Street. It can accommodate 100 people during the day in the cafeteria, and 50 overnight with cots.

The mayor’s office released a statement saying departments are continuing clean up after a serious wind storm yesterday.

Twelve side streets are still closed due to downed trees and power lines, but all major streets at open at this time. The closed streets include Scovell, Irving, Caledonia, Washington, Hawley, Church, Gooding, Akron, Lincoln Drive, Beattie, Ransom and Pine.

Parents are encouraged to prevent children from walking on sidewalks with down trees and power lines. If a traffic light is out, it should be treated as a four-way stop. A yellow-blinking light should be treated as a yield sign.

NYSEG says people could be without power into tomorrow of beyond.
