ALBANY, NY (WKBW/RELEASE) -- The New York State Thruway Authority announced a single lane closure on the South Grand Island Bridge northbound is required for repairs to an existing road plate. The single lane closure will be in place today, June 11, 2010, from 12:30 p.m. until 4 p.m., to allow Authority maintenance crews to repair an existing road plate.
Motorists planning to travel the South Grand Island Bridge northbound should expect moderate delays during this period.
Contractors have been working on the South Grand Island Bridge since mid-April to replace the existing concrete bridge deck, barrier, and sidewalk on the northbound span with pre-cast bridge deck panels and barrier as part of the overall South Grand Island Bridge rehabilitation project.
Traffic updates will be broadcast to motorists via Variable Message Signs along the highway and Highway Advisory Radio, 1610 AM in the Buffalo area.
The Authority appreciates motorists' patience and understanding while this important improvement project takes place.
