The drought may have affected some crops this year, but the lack of water did not seem to bother the pumpkins.

The Pumpkin Weigh Off at the Great Pumpkin Farm in Clarence drew in some of the largest pumpkins in the area. Pumpkin growers had the chance to win $10,000 if their pumpkin set a world record by weighing over 2,000 pounds!

The Great Pumpkin Farm had the first 1,000 pound pumpkin at the 1996 Great Pumpkin Farm Festival, weighing 1,061 pounds. That massive pumpkin went right into the Guinness Book of World Records.

Last year's winning entry submitted by Karl Haist weighed 1,781.5 pounds! He won again this year with a pumpkin weighing 1,964.5 pounds, taking home the top prize of $5,000. Cash prizes were also awarded to second through sixth place.

Taking first place again this year was Karl Haist of Clarence Center. His pumpkin weighed in at 1,964.5 pounds. He took home $4,500 in cash.

Second place went to Jim Hazeltine and his daughter Vivian of Delevan. Their pound weighed 1,554.5 pounds.

Jeff Podraza of West Seneca took third with his pumpkin weighing 1,427 pounds.
