There's a new push to make a stretch of Route 5 safer, and better protected from the sometimes rough waters of Lake Erie.
U.S. Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer says he is doubling down on his effort to secure $2.5 million in federal money to build a new, and more durable stone barrier.
The breakwall would shield Route 5 against crashing waves during big storms.
It would also double as a pedestrian walkway to give more public access to the Lake Erie shoreline.
Schumer says with the Omnibus passed, The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers finally has the resources it needs to prioritize the project.
