A new bill proposed by Senator Rich Funke would remove open container laws for designated leisure and recreation areas in a town or city.

It is illegal to drink alcohol in a public area in New York state.

Senate Bill S4592 would allow people to take open containers of alcohol from a bar or restaurant so long as they stay within the designated area.

Local governments would also be allowed to create recreation districts where these rules would apply.

The bill is still being considered in committee.
