BUFFALO, NY ( WKBW ) Nearly 700 Buffalo postal workers are now hoping Congress can save their jobs.

The fate of the Buffalo Mail Processing Center on William Street is in the hands of lawmakers, according to Congressman Brian Higgins.

He is pushing for comprehensive postal reform, to change the pension system, while keeping next day delivery.

If those two things can happen, Higgins is confident the Buffalo plant will remain open.

He visited the William Street facility Wednesday night, and told Eyewitness News, "The point here is with comprehensive postal reform, which has over 200 members both Democrat and Republican, this would resolve the problem here at this facility, and that's something that should be brought to the floor immediately, and I will be urging the speaker to do that."

Higgins will also meet with the Postmaster General on Monday to talk about the Buffalo plant.
