A new poll has found that New York voters are underwhelmed with the ethics reforms recently endorsed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo and lawmakers.
The Siena College poll found that 56 percent of respondents say the changes won't reduce state government corruption.
Shortly before adjourning the 2016 session lawmakers and the Democratic governor agreed to changes, including expanded disclosure rules for lobbyists and stronger restrictions on spending by independent political groups.
Legislators failed to pass more sweeping changes, such as tighter campaign finance rules or limits on lawmakers' outside income.
Seventy-one percent of poll respondents gave Cuomo a negative rating for his work to reduce corruption.
The June 22-28 telephone poll of 803 registered voters has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
