Buffalo, N.Y. (WKBW) - Chris Collins is the Republican pick to be the candidate in the race for the 27th Congressional District seat.
Now, a heated battle for the position against Congresswoman Kathy Hochul begins. Both parties are spending millions of dollars to make sure their candidate gets the job, and the mudslinging has already begun.
This is a newly created seat, and it is one race that will be watched closely both locally and nationally. Democrats and Republicans have already started to send out press releases, touting their candidate and attacking the other.
The Democrats are calling Collins a political failure, after he was ousted from his Erie County Executive post last year. Republicans call Kathy Hochul a “Barak Obama Democrat”, who is out of touch with voters.
“This race has started. Unlike previous Congressional races that we've been accustomed to, it is not from September to October. It is from June 27th to November, “ political analyst Bob Davis said.
These candidates will spend the summer campaigning for support in the election, taking place in November. Again, it looks like it is going to be a heated battle for the candidates and their parties.
