New York state is launching a new effort to reduce teen driver deaths and injuries.

Timed to coincide with high school proms, spring dances and graduations, the campaign includes public awareness and stepped up law enforcement near high schools around the state.

The police will target speeding in school zones, seatbelt violations, drunken driving and texting while driving.

The initiative is titled "No Empty Chair," a reference to the seats at high school graduations left empty when a teen driver dies in an accident.

The campaign runs through late April.
