Rochester police officers are making sure some neighborhood kids have a great summer.

They were patrolling the area when they saw kids playing basketball on a hoop with no backboard. The officers pooled money, and went out to buy the kids a new hoop with a real backboard.

"Everybody was, right away, 'What can we give? What can we do?' We put the hoop together here as a group. Funny part was figuring out how to get it to first street when it was together," said Officer Michael Collins from the Rochester Police Department.

The officers also used their lights and sirens to get over to the kids' street, then surprised them with the new hoop. They say they decided to act because the kids are just getting out of school for the summer, and they need something to do.
