A Lackawanna man who was in prison for the brutal murder of his wife more than 30 years ago was found dead in his jail cell on Tuesday.

Michael Rodriguez, 61, committed suicide at the Auburn Correctional Facility. He was linked to the April 13, 1979 murder of his wife, Patricia Scinta Rodriguez, by DNA evidence and sentenced last December to 25 years to life in prison.

Patricia, a 21-year-old mother of two, was found dead in a Lackawanna cemetery. She had been stabbed 108 times.

After his sentencing, Rodriguez maintained his innocence. His defense attorney, Paul Cambria, vowed to immediately file an appeal.

No further details about his death were immediately released.
