Authorities say a man killed himself after murdering two college students in a house blocks from the SUNY Geneseo campus.

On Sunday around 6 a.m., Geneseo Police were called to a home on Wadsworth Street after a 911 call from Colin Kingston's father, who said his son had told him he had killed his ex-girlfriend before hanging up.

When officers arrived, they found the bodies of Kelsey Annese, 21, of Webster, Matthew Hutchinson, 24, of Vancouver, British Columbia and Colin Kingston, 24, of Geneseo in an upstairs bedroom.

Police say Kingston fatally stabbed Annese, his ex-girlfriend, and Hutchinson with a large knife. Police say they may have been killed while sleeping. Officers believe shortly after calling his father, Kingston took his own life.

"We believe Mr. Kingston was distraught over the breakup which led up to the events of yesterday," said Jeffrey Szczesniak, of the Geneseo Police Department.

Police say Kingston and Annese had been in a long-term relationship that recently ended.

Annese and Hutchinson were current SUNY Geneseo students and the home where they were killed was where Annese was living while attending the college.

Annese played on the women's basketball team and lived with others members of the team. She grew up in Webster, New York. Former teachers remember her as a kind young woman who made a big impression.

Hutchinson was a member of the men's ice hockey team and the Geneseo Fire Department, where Hutchinson was a three-year active volunteer member.

"Matt was really in the upper echelon of our department," said Geneseo Fire Chief Andrew Chanler. "He was trained and qualified to perform all duties as a firefighter, and he also held EMT certification. Really, there wasn't anything Matt wasn't checked out to do with us. It's been very difficult on our department."

Kingston is a former SUNY Geneseo student who was on the basketball team.

The college has made counseling available for students at the close-knit community. College classes will resume as scheduled on Tuesday, but the men's and women's basketball games on Tuesday have been postponed.

A memorial service is being planned for Wednesday night. More information from the school can be found here.
