State police are reminding upstate New Yorkers with pistol permits of the upcoming deadline to recertify them through the SAFE Act.
Pistol permit holders have to recertify every five years, so that means anybody who was issued one before January 15, 2013 must recertify by the end of January 2018. Those who fail to comply by the deadline will have their permits revoked.
This applies to everyone who had a permit before January 15, 2013.
Those who choose not to renew online can do so by mail. Paper forms are available at all state police stations.
