An online petition is circulating that calls on the City of Buffalo to rename one of its dog parks in memory of fallen Buffalo Police Officer Craig Lehner.
The change.org petition asks the city to rename the dog park in Lasalle Park "The Craig Lehner Memorial Barkyard Park".
Officer Craig Lehner went missing during a training accident with Buffalo Police's Underwater Rescue and Recovery Team on October 13. His body was recovered in the Niagara River five days later after an extensive search effort.
In addition to serving on the URRT, Officer Lehner was a K-9 officer with the department. When his K-9 Shield passes away, he will be laid to rest with his former handler in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
