An ATV accident landed one male in the hospital Sunday morning, according to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies say one man made a 911 call at 7:45 a.m. stating someone he knew crashed his ATV sometime overnight in an open field near the railroad tracks off of West Street in Sanborn.

According to the Sheriff's Office, the caller became concerned when the injured male didn't return home after leaving to ride his ATV early in the morning on Sunday. The caller and another person went to search on their own ATVs, according to officials.

Deputies say the injured male lost control of the ATV for unknown reasons and was riding alone without a helmet. When he was found in the field, he was semi-conscious and non-responsive to deputies and Emergency Medical Services personnel, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The injured male was treated at the scene by Sanborn Fire and taken by Mercy Flight to the Erie County Medical Center. He is listed in critical condition.
