Cynthia Nixon has collected more than 65,000 signatures on a petition to secure her place on the primary ballot in her effort to oust two-term Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

The number of signatures collected by the "Sex and the City" star and political activist is more than five times the amount required under state election law.

Nixon's campaign released the total on Thursday, the deadline for signatures.

Cuomo received his spot on the primary ballot thanks to the endorsement of the state Democratic Party.

Nixon says 3,500 volunteers helped collect the signatures around the state. She says the total reflects public support for candidates who take on the establishment.

There was no immediate response from the Cuomo campaign.
