The Erie County Sheriff's Office launched a new app Wednesday that is designed to give the public greater access to law enforcement.

Deputies say the new app is an innovative approach to help Erie County citizens, businesses, and visitors stay tuned to important news and resources from the Sheriff's office.

A key feature within the app allows people to submit an anonymous tip about narcotics, underage drinking, human trafficking and other incidents via email and texts or with their contact information.

Other important features include a warrant watch, Sheriff sales, quick connections to abuse hotlines, an inmate search and social media feeds.

Anyone with the app can also use the "Share our app" feature to forward alerts and download links to friends, family and neighbors.

“Our new mobile app will help us empower the public to be our partners in public safety with critical news and alerts,” said Sheriff Timothy Howard.  “The public will be able to submit confidential crime tips to us right through the app.  The Erie County Sheriff’s Office exists to protect and serve our community therefore; our new app will help us to be even more effective in that mission.”

People can download the app onto their smartphone or tablet right now. It is available free of charge.

Seized asset funds were used to fund the development of the app.
