The co-winner of this year's Scripps National Spelling Bee is being honored at the state Capitol.

Thirteen-year-old Jairam Hathwar of Painted Post in the Southern Tier will be recognized Wednesday by the state Assembly and Senate. He shared first place in the National Spelling Bee last month with an 11-year-old from Texas.

Jairam will be accompanied by his parents and an older brother who was National Spelling Bee co-champion in 2014.

Jairam is a seventh-grader at The Alternative School for Math & Science in Corning.
