Tucked away on the city's West Side is a mushroom farm.
It began a couple years ago when Robert Gianadda's daughter asked him if he knew how mushrooms grow. He didn't, so they looked it up online and ended up buying a mushroom growing kit.
One thing led to another and now the little farm known as "Flat #12" takes up four thousand square feet and puts out 200 pounds of mushrooms a week. Robert grows Oyster Mushrooms and they have been very popular with many of the areas top restaurants. Robert said, "Places like Buffalo Proper go through 40 pounds a week. That's a lot of mushrooms."
He plans to expand and grow more varieties and larger quantities. Robert says he has learned a lot about mushrooms in the last few years, but couldn't have grown the business as much as he has without the wonderful community support.
