UPDATE: Chestnut Ridge Park's Eternal Flame trial will re-open on Saturday.

Original: Plenty in western New York are still coping with the aftermath of the three tornadoes that touched down last Thursday. The Erie County Parks Department will spend most of the week cleaning up a larger portion of Chestnut Ridge Park in Orchard Park. The EF2 tornado crossed right through the park.

Currently, anything west of Chestnut Ridge Road in the park is closed. This includes paths to the eternal flame.

Some of the park is being used for recovery efforts for surrounding communities. All the downed trees and branches in Hamburg and Orchard Park are being brought to the park to be mulched.

Erie County Parks Commissioner Dan Rizzo says the park should be closed for the rest of the week.

Removing branches that haven't completely fallen, will take the most time for park workers. Rizzo says that has to happen for all the park’s paths and it's not easy to access to all those trees.

The plan right now is to have Chestnut Ridge Park open for the weekend.
