GRAND ISLAND, NY (WKBW) - It was a perfect day for a baseball game, and Sunday happened to be Opening Day at one special field.
Athletes who play for the Miracle League of Western New York took to the field at Veterans Park in Grand Island. They all have different disabilities, but they come together with volunteers to play a little ball.
The field they play on was made especially for the athletes and the walkers and wheelchairs many of them use. It gives these players a chance to be part of a team.
"They get their own hat, their own uniform, their own trophy at the end of the year, they get a schedule, and they hand that out to their family members who come watch them play baseball," said Miracle League President R.J. Wynne.
This is the Miracle League's fourth year in Western New York.
