Outside of the K-9 training unit in Buffalo are dozens of flowers, a few pumpkins and a large sign that reads "Fly high Officer Lehner, RIP."

The sign was set up by the Buffalo community to honor Lehner at the place he spent so much time with his dog Shield.

"I've worked (across the street) for ten years and they (Lehner and Shield) would come here all the time with his dog and train" Scott Rowell, a neighbor who worked across the street said.

Community members were tending to the lawn where the memorial is placed. Those who come by are encouraged to bring flowers, blue pumpkins, or just to think at the memorial on the corner of Louisiana Street and Mackinaw Street.

The memorial service for Officer Lehner is being held on Tuesday at the Key Bank Center in downtown Buffalo.
