The number of children with elevated blood-lead levels is greater in Western New York than in Flint Michigan.

That's according to the community leaders working on a new initiative Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown is rolling out.

In Buffalo and Erie County, officials say exposure to lead-based paint used in homes before the material was banned in 1978, presents the risk of lead poisoning, especially in children.

The program brings community leaders from the city and the county together to focus on funding, education, testing and stricter guidelines for landlords.
