Cheektowaga Police responded to a stabbing on Windwood Court early Tuesday morning.
Police say a man broke into the home of a woman who filed an "order of protection" against him. Investigators said the woman acted in self defense and stabbed the man. There were children at the home at the time of the incident. The man is currently in police custody and awaits a court date.
"Order of protection" is essentially a restraining order used during disputes. It can be used in several situations ranging from verbal attacks to physical altercations. The "order of protection" intends to give power to the victims of abuse and can require attackers to completely avoid the individual.
It is not known the exact severity of the "order of protection" that led to Tuesday's incident.
