Livingston County Sheriff's Office arrested an Avon man for assaulting a Deputy Sheriff.

The Sheriff's Office says it was called to help the Geneseo Police Department with a fatal car crash on Avon Road in the Village of Geneseo.

Deputy Martin Herkimer from the Livingston County Sheriff's Office was one of the first responders to arrive at the scene, according to officials.

The Sheriff's Office says Herkimer approached Michael Bellonte, 29, a driver involved in the crash who was walking away from the scene.

Officials say when Herkimer approached him, Bellonte punched him in the face.

Bellonte was quickly taken into custody, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Bellonte was transported to Strong Hospital because of the crash, according to officials.

Deputies say the Sheriff's Office got an arrest warrant for Bellonte for charges of assault, obstructing governmental administration, and harassment.

Bellonte appeared in the Village of Geneseo Court and placed in custody on $5000 cash bail, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Officials say the car accident remains under investigation by the Geneseo Police Department with assistance from the Sheriff's Office.
