BUFFALO, N.Y. ( WKBW ) As we head into the Memorial Day holiday weekend, many people will take to the roads.
Some of Buffalo bravest, the men and women of the Buffalo Fire Department are learning a new way to help keep residents and children safe.
Firefighters with the city are now being trained in child safety seat installation.
The program was set up by the city to develop new ways to help prevent injuries in car accidents.
Commissioner Garnell Whitfield tells Eyewitness News, "Children are some of the most vulnerable people in our population, and it is very important that we secure them in vehicles. Sudden stops, accidents, and all those things put them at high risk for injury. Child safety seats are meant to keep them safe, but they only work when they are properly installed."
Firefighters will use this new training to hold child seat checks for Buffalo families.
