Gas prices for this 4th of July holiday are expected to be the lowest they've been in 12 years.
The nationwide average for a gallon of gas is expected to be $2.21, which is almost a dollar under the 10-year average of $3.14.
Many analysts are shocked by the price turn-around. Earlier this year, they projected gas prices to be closer to $3.00 per gallon for the start of July. GasBuddy tracks gas prices across the country. The company says this is the first time in its 17-year history that gas prices on July 4th will be lower than they were on New Year's Day.
