For most children, having a birthday party means getting presents. But that's last thing on Conall Krabak's mind. Conall is getting a lot of attention for turning his 9th birthday party into a benefit for pediatric hematology and oncology patients at Women & Children's Hospital of Buffalo.
"My son Conall was interested after he met some of my patients with cancer and wanted to do something to help. So Conall and his classmates are donating money to Steadfast today," says his mother, Dr. Lorna Fitzpatrick.
There were no presents for Conall at his birthday party. Instead, his friends made donations to the Steadfast Foundation, which helps raise money and awareness to benefit local kids who are living with cancer.
"I just wanted to donate money to help kids with cancer," said Conall. "I think it's so important because you're actually saving people's lives."
Conall's good deed did not go unnoticed. Sabres goalie and founder of the Steadfast Foundation, Ryan Miller, made a special appearance at Conall's party.
"Birthdays, as we get older, mean less about the presents. I think it's a good thing for these kids to realize that you can give someone else a gift and that feeling of friendship and community on your birthday is what counts," says Miller.
Congratulation Conall Kabrak, our Channel 7 Person of the Week.
