BUFFALO, N.Y. ( Business First ) Controversy over the Maid of the Mist is already impacting tourism in Niagara Falls. Officials say tourists are already calling with concerns. The Maid of the Mist season gets underway next month. Two million passengers ride the boats each year. A San Francisco company is taking over Canadian cruises in 2014. A report in this week's Business First says it is uncertain whether or not boat service will be offered in Ontario this summer. The Maid of the Mist has 30 years left on the U.S. contract and stores boats on the Canadian side. The company could build a storage facility here or sell its lease to the other company. Daemen College plans to open the Daemen College Physical Therapy Wound Clinic this summer at the Center for Skin Integrity in Cheektowaga. A report in this week's Business First says patients will receive care at no cost, at least for the first year of operation. That's thanks to a $530,000 award from the John R. Oishei Foundation. The funding will also cover academics. The report says Daemen officials plan to create a wound-care academy to train area practitioners and would eventually offer certification courses and a graduate degree programs.
