Wild DWI Chase in Tonawanda
Town of Tonawanda, N.Y. (WKBW) A 55-year old Buffalo man is facing a variety of charges after causing thousands of dollars worth of damage while leading police on a car chase through both the City and Town of Tonawanda. Jacob Bell is now charged with DWI, Speeding, and Felony Assault. He also has several Vehicle and Traffic violations for his actions early Tuesday morning. According to police, Bell refused to pull over for a traffic stop on Delaware Avenue around 1:20am. As police pursued his 2001 Kia, Jacob Bell drove over several lawns in an attempt to make u-turns to head directly at the officers. "They had to take some evasive actions to avoid him," said Lt. Nick Bado from Town of Tonawanda Police. On Zimmerman Boulevard, Jacob Bell struck a City of Tonawanda Police car head-on. The officer was not injured. Near Colvin Boulevard, Bell fed his vehicle on foot and was appended by police who found him hiding in some bushes. Officials estimate that the cost of repairs due to the DWI chase could come close to $10,000. Two Ford Interceptor police cars belonging to the City of Tonawanda had front end damage, four lawns were torn up, street signs on Zimmerman Blvd. were knocked down, and a home on Canterbury Lane had bushes and a driveway lamp post broken.
