Los Angeles, C.A. (WKBW) - The plan calls for $50 million to help schools hire these armed guards, who will watch over children in school. It's all part of a broader discussion on school safety following last months massacre in Connecticut.
California Senator Barbara Boxer announced the proposal for the schools and said that Vice President Joe Biden is considering it. This comes one day after the NRA criticized Biden over his proposal for stricter gun laws.
Democrats see the armed guard proposal as a way to find middle ground on the controversial issue. Biden did not specifically address the guard issue but said he is committed to changing what many argue is a flawed and unsafe system.
"The President and I are determined to take action. If our actions only save one life, they are worth taking. But I am convinced we can affect the well-being of millions of Americans and take people out of harms way," Biden said.
Right now, Biden has been in talks with the NRA and several other parties to try and come up with a plan to make changes. He plans to release a detailed proposal early next week. He said the sooner the changes can be made, the saver the country would become.
