Buffalo, NY (WKBW) – Coordinated drug raids in Buffalo early Wednesday morning ended with at least a dozen people arrested.
Law enforcement simultaneously conducted search warrants at homes of suspected gang members in the Fruit Belt neighborhood and the Perry Housing projects.
Sources tell us all those arrested are facing federal narcotics charges.
Mayor Byron Brown (D-Buffalo) compared the drug dealing in the Perry Projects to the 1991 movie “New Jack City.”
“They had almost taken control of this development,” Brown says, “creating an environment where people were scared to speak out, where people were fearful, and where people felt like they had no choice but take tolerate some of the criminal activity.”
Law enforcement tells Eyewitness News that these gangs are also behind robberies, extortions and homicides in Buffalo.
The investigation into gang and drug activity in these areas is still continuing. There could still be more arrests.
