The NFTA has announced today that it's Metro Rail Theater Station will close permanently on Monday, Feb 18.
The closing was deemed necessary as work continues to progress on the City of Buffalo's project to return cars to Main Street.
The closing and razing of both the inbound and outbound stations on the 600 block of Main Street is for safety and design reasons in order to ensure compatibility between vehicle traffic and rail cars in the vicinity of the portal to Main Street.
When the Theater Station is removed, metro customers, including disabled persons will continue to have access to the Theater District from the Fountain Plaza Station via pedestrian crosswalks with disabled access features.
With this closing, Fountain Plaza Station will become the first and last station in the Free Fair Zone.
Theater Station will continue to operate until it closes on February 17th.
