A man is facing sentencing after being found guilty, as charged, of strangling and assaulting his pregnant girlfriend, who was 39 weeks at the time.

29-year-old Eli Casillas bruised his pregnant girlfriends body and face, causing a severely swollen eye and leaving a bruise in the shape of his hand upon her neck.

Casillas also caused additional bruising as the result of repeated strikes with a metal broom and strangulation which nearly caused his girlfriend to lose consciousness.

Casillas, a second felony offender, will remain in custody in state prison until he is sentenced on March 14th.

He faces up to 14 years in prison.
