LACKAWANNA, NY (WKBW) - 46-year-old, Sabahudin Ramulic, Tonawanda, was killed at Linita Design and Manufacturing when a steel beam weighing 6,000 lbs fell from an overhead crane, bounced off the ground and landed on his midsection, around 4:30 P.M. Wednesday, Lackawanna police said.

Ramulic was taken to Mercy Hospital, where he later passed away from the injury.

The steel beam also broke the legs of 26-year-old Patrick Barker, who was helping Ramulic at the time of the accident.

Barker was taken to Erie County Medical Center, where he remains in stable condition.

Linita Design, a Canadian company, brought its manufacturing operations to the former Bethlehem Steel site on the Hamburg Turnpike in 2009. Local officials were happy about the company bringing between 50 - 100 jobs to the region and for using the vacant industrial site.

Records show the company had two "serious" violations last year by the federal Occupational Safety & Health Administration, which is investigating Wednesday's incident. Linita was ordered to pay more than $3,500 for those violations last year.
