BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW)- On the East Side, community organizations are teaming up to make sure local women stay healthy.
Area health care providers and the UB Family Medicine Department hosted a free health and wellness event in Masten Park Saturday.
Providers were on hand for free breast cancer screenings, medical check-ups and to distribute information on risks and treatments.
Organizers say the goal is to reach out to African American women, who could be more suseptible to the disease.
According to the American Cancer Society, more than 27,000 news cases of breast cancer among African American women are expected this year.
