BUFFALO (WKBW) The night was a rollercoaster for both incumbent Tim Kennedy and challenger Betty Jean Grant in the primary race for the 63rd Senate seat.
But after hours of back and forth, percentage points given and lost, and margins as small as 13 votes, Kennedy pulled ahead late 51% to 49%, 291 votes ahead of Grant as the final district reported in.
Kennedy's base for the night, Statler City, erupted with cheers and the Senator arrived claiming "victory for all the hard working people who voted for me."
Challenger Betty Jean Grant is likely to ask for a recount.
