Sixteen year old Damon Janes was playing for the Westfield/Brocton football team against Portville on September 13th when at some point during the game Westfield-Brocton coaches stopped the game
and Janes was transported to the hospital according to Portville head coach Gary Swetland.
Janes later died at Women and Children's Hospital and officials said it was due to a helmet to helmet hit that occurred during the game.
However, Swetland says no player ever went down nor was there any type of hit where there was concern for a player and his ability to continue the game.
He says he watched the game tape over and over again and even showed it to others and never saw a helmet to helmet hit or any other serious contact.
Administrators at the Brocton school district did not return our calls for comment.
The Cattaraugus County Sheriff's department tells us there is no investigation into the incident.
