Buffalo, NY (WKBW) - After downsizing 9 various towns and villages across Western New York, Advocate Kevin Gaughan is now proposing the reduction of state government. In response to New York's fiscal crises, Gaughan wants to reduce the State Senate from 62 to 50 members, and reduce the State Assembly by 75 members. He would like to start with a statewide referendum this November on state senate downsizing. Gaughan has sent a letter to every senator across New York asking asking them for their position on downsizing.

"To save New York, Albany is about to lay-off employees at hospitals, schools, parks, and social service agencies," Gaughan said. "If we're going to eliminate full-time state workers, we should eliminate part-time politicians as well."

The website, www.LetPeopleDecide.org will publish the position of lawmakers on the downsizing measure.
