Man Found Dead After Tense Standoff
TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WKBW) - Town of Tonawanda Police have confirmed the death of a man who set his house on fire. Neighbors tell Eyewitness News around 9:15 a.m, they saw smoke and flames coming from the home, and heard guns shots. Police say 60-year-old Joseph Hollywood set his house on fire after reportedly threatening a woman with a gun inside. Hollywood was confirmed dead in the basement of his home around 4:55 p.m. Monday. Police say it is not known whether his death was caused by the fire or the result of some other self-inflicted act. All schools in the KenTon district we on lockdown until 1:10 p.m., and residents withing 1/4 mile of the home were asked to take shelter in their basements until further notice. Officials from National Grid say they will be cutting power to the area. The KenTon district released this statement: "The Town of Tonawanda Police Department has advised that all school district buildings should not allow anyone to leave or enter at this time. The reason is that there is a possibly deranged individual that may be related to a house fire on the corner of Eggert and Fries Roads. Police informed us that at some point shots may have been fired, and we will remain in lock down mode until they have found him as they are not completely sure he is in the house."
