Friday night was opening night for 21 Buffalo area theatres. The night started out with with an extravagant black-tie gala in the middle of Main Street under the big tent.
This year's celebrity guest was nationally renowned playwright and Buffalo native A.R. Gurney whose name will soon be added to Buffalo's Walk of Fame currently under construction.
The Queen City has earned a distinguished reputation for theatre and has become one of the hot spots for Broadway shows.
Mayor Byron Brown and his wife also attended the Curtain Up! events.
One thing Brown says will make the playhouses even more accessible is the city's Main Street car sharing project with cars expected on the 500 block sometime next year which is welcome news to nearby restaurants like Cabaret whose business depends on the theatre season.
