The family of 39 year old Brian Chapman Jr. had not previously planned Thursday night's candlelight vigil but after an explosive day in court hours earlier, the family decided to hold a vigil to bring the focus back on Chapman's life.
A group of close friends and family gathered outside of Chapman's Guilford Street home in Buffalo where he was shot dead Wednesday morning.
Twenty four year old Joshua Mitchell was charged with Chapman's murder and arraigned on $1 million bail Thursday.
Tensions erupted inside the courtroom and the suspect was seen cursing at the victims' family.
Police say Mitchell was sitting inside a car when he fired the fatal shots while Chapman was standing outside waiting for a ride to his job as an NFTA bus driver.
