BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - A Buffalo man pleaded 'not guilty' to felony Animal Cruelty charges in Buffalo City Court Tuesday morning.

29-year-old Adam Shevins of Buffalo is charged with killing his girlfriend's pug back in February. SPCA officials say the dog appeared to have been the victim of severe abuse.

"The reason we believe that is because the ribs were broken in an almost perfectly straight line. The only thing that could have caused that would have been blunt force trauma, like a foot, someone kicking him, or like a stomp. The dog sustained extreme pain during that time," said SPCA Officer Lindsey Styborski.

Shevins will be back in court later this month for a felony hearing on the case.
