LANCASTER, NY (WKBW) -- The Lancaster School District is well known for having quality education and parents there say they want to keep it that way. But many wonder if a tax hike is the answer. The Lancaster School District is proposing a 21% tax increase. "It sounds like an extra $500 to $1,000 in extra taxes a year, right?" one parent asked. "But we have a good school system so which way do you go?"

Some parents and residents say they are willing to pay a small tax increase but they worry that there will still be cuts in the district. "You pay enough taxes as it is and now they're talking about cutting some of the programs out, when does it end?" another parent asked.

If the proposal goes through, residents in the school district would get to vote on it in May.
