Niagara Falls, New York (WKBW) -- Police and the Mayor of Niagara Falls are sending a strong message to gang members. Starting tonight, officials are cracking down on the escalating gun violence. The number of roving plain clothes, undercover police officers will double. Federal laws, which are tougher than state laws, will be used to prosecute gang members.

Police have arrested four alleged gang members this week and confiscated drugs and weapons. This announcement follows a spike in violence in Niagara Falls. Two people have been shot in just the past three days.
