SEATTLE, WA (WKBW/ABC) -- Officials have confirmed that the body that washed up on a remote shore near Tacoma, Washington is that of a missing 8-year-old boy.

8-year-old Azriel Carver went missing along with his mother, 29-year-old Shantina Smiley less than a week ago.

The boy's father, Jay Carver, is from Western New York, and flew out to Washington on Monday to help in the search.

Azriel's body was found over 11 miles away from where Smiley's van was discovered. Deputies are still out searching the beach in both directions for any sign of Smiley. A Coast Guard craft and Pierce County sheriff's boats are out searching the waters around the island.

The fiance of the missing mother, who vanished five days ago with her young son, had identified articles that washed ashore Tuesday at a pond as belonging to them.
